Life is an amazing journey full of learning experiences that are meant to guide us through life. The result of those experiences could either propel us forward or pull us back. The sooner we learn some lessons the better our lives will be. I believe it is important to live a very fulfilled life and part of doing that is by having a mindset of continuous learning and a hunger for growth. I also strongly believe it is essential to learn some lessons from the lives of others. So here is a list of life lessons that will help you in your journey of life.
Lessons Repeat Themselves Until Learned – Yes, it’s true. Have you ever experienced something over and over again and don’t know why? Well, it is likely something in that experience that you need to learn. Take a step back, think, and study the issue to figure out what that could be. Then apply the change.
Failures Are Not Really Failures – Failures are not failures but lessons to be learned. You must acknowledge and analyze the failure to ensure that you learn the lesson and know how to improve and succeed in that area.
Actions Speak – (and should be louder than words) It is said that you should judge a person by their fruit which is actions. Always pay less attention to what someone is saying and more to what they are doing.
Know When To Move On or Remove Yourself From A Situation – When a situation or relationship no longer serves you, inconveniences, or harms you or those around you in some way it is time to let go and remove yourself. That situation has served its purpose or may not have been meant for you.
Take Care Of You First – It is very hard to take care of others and operate through life when you are down and not feeling well. Make sure you are at your best, then you can give and do from that space. “Taking care of yourself doesn’t mean me first; it means me too.” -L.R. Knost. “An empty lantern provides no light. Self-care is the fuel that allows your light to shine brightly”. -Author Unknown.
Live and Be Present In The Moment – Being present in the moment is so important. It allows you to really experience life in a real way and enjoy what you are doing at that moment. You increase focus and reduce stress. “Do not dwell in the past, do not dream of the future, concentrate the mind on the present moment.” – Buddha
Do It Now – Stop procrastinating, if you have something to do and can get it done, do it now! Procrastination can become a habit if you allow it and could ultimately destroy your life. “Success is not obtained overnight. It comes in installments; you get a little bit today, and a little bit tomorrow until the whole package is given out. The day you procrastinate, you lose that day’s success.” -Israelmore Ayivor “If you’re a procrastinator, you will find every excuse not to do what you need to do. Here’s a thought: do it first. I call it reverse procrastination.” -Jeff Goins
Keep Your Personal and Work Life Separate – Sometimes I know this can be hard, but I think it is a must. I also think it goes hand in hand with being present in the moment. Never let the worries of your job affect your home and vice versa.
Live Your Life With Legacy In Mind – We must always be intentional and live life on purpose. You should always have a vision and use that vision as a guide for your life.
If Opportunity Doesn’t Present Itself Then You Create It – We were created to create and sometimes the very opportunity that we need must be created ourselves. “When things do not go your way, remember that every challenge – every adversity – contains within it the seeds of opportunity and growth.” – Roy T. Bennett
Never Compare Your Life To Someone Else – Success is not the same for everyone. “Don’t compare your path with anybody else’s. Your path is unique to you.” – Ram Dass
Money Is Not Resolutions To A Problem – Money is just a means for exchange and a resource that can be used. But most resolutions to problems start with a change in your mindset first.
It Is Ok – It is ok to be sad or angry or feel down but don’t live there and don’t make permanent decisions in those moments. Don’t allow those moments to overtake you. Go through the process and feel what you need to feel. Then get up, make necessary decisions or change, and move on.
